“Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish” – Steve Jobs.
I remember when I first heard this quote. My wife and I were cruzin down I-80 in the G, returning to the Bay Area after visiting my son and grandchildren in Sacramento. When we heard it, we briefly glanced at each other for a moment and chuckled. We agreed that ripsticking and this blog were my foolishness. Yes, pure foolishness…
Or at least it was, until it magically morphed into a passion, now shared by both of my grand children, my youngest son and many of their friends. Rip Sticking OG Ce style, ceased being foolishness and
blossomed into a bouquet of hidden hidden opportunities to connect with my children, grandchildren, and others at a more natural level.
My foolishness’s metamorphosis began early one summer evening, on a crudely paved country road in the Sierra foothills of California, frequented by deer and quail near Yosemite. I was riding my ripstick and my grandson, Avant, was riding his Razor scooter. He looked up at me, and told me very directly that he wanted me to show him how to ride a ripstick. Imagine that! Brings tears to my eyes when I thinking about it.
I responded that there are lots of videos out there on UTUBE that can teach you how to ride, or something like that. That is when he said,
“I want to learn from the master; and you are the master.”
Wow! Think about that for a moment– something so powerful, from such foolishness! What a blessing.
When we returned home to the coast a few days later, we went to Target and I got him a red Rip Stick, like the one below.
That evening I gave him his first lesson.
This was only the beginning….
Be sure to check back for “the rest of the story”. To be continued…
