THis post is dedicated to the very special folks that I have been blessed to play in the snow, skiing / snowboarding with over the years – Dan, Genne, Ev, Bien, Cheryl, Nico.
WHile we would often ride up together, they were so much better than I at skiing and snowboarding that I could not keep up with them. I often admired how good they were and how much fun they seemed to have. It was really cool, yet secretly I envied them for not only making it to the bottom of the run in one fell swoop, but also how they did so with such ease and control.
While they all were making several runs on diamonds, I was making my way down bunny slopes, slowly and methodically, in spurts and falls.
IT wasn’t until the other day, when i was thinking about how much fun i was having spinning around, dancing with leaves and shadows, on my ripstick in the park, that I realized in a flash that this must be the kind of fun they were having skiing and snowboarding.
WOW! What a REVELATION!
ON those, far too few trips to Sugar Bowl, Diamondpeak, Northstar in Tahoe, i never experienced this level of fun. This level of fun was never a factor for me, and i certainly never felt it. I must confess, that my fun came more from our hanging out together on the rides up; riding the lifts high above the snow covered slopes; sitting on snow capped mountain tops with them as we prepared to descend. Sharing lunch, dinner, and good conversation with good people. These moments forever will i cherish.
That said, the actual skiing / snowboarding part of the trip was more of a fear factor (of falling and hurting something), than a fun factor. For me, getting down the slopes was always more work, effort, and determination than fun. At least not the level of fun, I only now see, those guys were having.
SO, now you see why I think I got it, finally 🙂
GEt Your Swerve on!
Namaste!
